1. Former Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chief Nduese Essien, on Sunday, asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo not to blame Western democracy for Nigeria’s leadership woe. Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital, Essien said the seeming failure is because democracy is not practised according to the rules in the country.

2. Rev. Fr. Nwaigwe Stephen, a Catholic Priest in Anambra State, has been remanded for allegedly raping and impregnating a teenager. An Awka Chief Magistrates’ Court, otherwise known as the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court , Anambra State remanded the priest in prison till December 6, 2023.

3. Troops of the Nigerian military attached to the air component of the Operation Hadin Kai, Nigerian Air Force, have neutralised scores of terrorists hibernating on the popular Mandara Mountain. The terrorists, according to the Nigerian Air Force, were killed at the isolated location where they were holding a meeting in preparation to carry out a major attack on innocent citizens.

4. Nationwide curfew was declared yesterday by Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio after unidentified gunmen attacked military barracks in the West African nation’s capital, Freetown. This is as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemned the plot by some individuals to disturb the peace of the West African country.

5. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has said he is considering moving a bill to institutionalise the Igbo system of apprenticeship as part of moves to address the dearth of skilled workers and unemployment in the country.

6. The traditional ruler of Otulu community in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Joe Ochulor, has been murdered. The monarch who was kidnapped by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Saturday morning, was killed in the evening of the same day.

7. A father of three, Seyi Oduyiga, has been allegedly tortured to death by men of the Ogun State Police Command in their custody over allegations of his involvement in cultism. It was gathered that the victim was arrested by the police in a raid on 18th November, around 5:00 pm, when, according to his family members, he went to charge his phone.

8. Hundreds of women staged a protest march to the Kano State Police Command on Sunday to show their displeasure over the recent Court of Appeal nullification of the election of Abba Kabir Yusuf. The women, who carried placards and sang songs in support of Mr Yusuf, said they were protesting the alleged injustice done to the people of Kano State.

9. A combined team of police operatives and vigilante members, acting on intelligence, have killed five bandit leaders who led their gangs to infiltrate Kwarare, a village situated in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State. A vigilante leader in Katsina said on Sunday that the confrontation occurred at about 2 pm on Saturday between Kwarare and Kadoji villages.

10. Israeli officials say 17 hostages were back on Israeli territory after the latest release. One, in her 80s, was admitted to hospital which said her life was in danger. Hamas released a third group of hostages, including a four-year-old American girl on Sunday, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners on day three of a truce which a source close to the militants said they were willing to prolong.
