1. Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has said the second term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the most successful in terms of economic growth, job creation, and inflation rate in Nigeria. In an interview in South Africa, El-Rufai, who served as a minister under Obasanjo, said Nigeria, the most populous African country, experienced economic prosperity during his second term extending from 2003 till 2007.

2. Flood has taken over many houses and streets in Lagos State following a heavy downpour that started in the early hours of Saturday. Many residents have been displaced, while others are trying to salvage their properties.

3. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State on Saturday called on Daniel Bwala, the spokesperson for the presidential candidate of the party in the last general elections, Atiku Abubakar, to stop the persistent advertisement of his ignorance about the party. The Legal Adviser of the PDP in Rivers State and former Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (Port Harcourt Branch), Chief Kingsley Chuku, said this while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

4. Six governors, seven ministers and some senior aides will accompany President Bola Tinubu to the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States of America (USA), on Sunday. This was contained in a statement on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

5. Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, on Saturday, denied an alleged plot to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Eyiboh, in a statement in Abuja, said contrary to the sponsored news report in some sections of the media that some unnamed Senators were allegedly plotting to impeach Akpabio, the Senate under Akpabio is stable and unperturbed.

6. Nigeria has been ranked number 11 among the top 12 most influential countries in Africa, according to the 2023 Global Soft Power Index. The index measures the strength and appeal of a country’s soft power assets, including its cultural heritage, education, governance, and global reputation.

7. President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Global Analytics Consulting, Tope Fasua, as Special Adviser on Economic Affairs in the office of the Vice President. Fasua, an economist and author, shared information about his appointment via his verified X handle (formerly Twitter) Friday night.

8. Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, on Saturday, threw a fresh jibe at Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi. Soyinka said in a statement that the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) during the presidential election were the architects of their own defeat.

9. Gunmen have kidnapped one person believed to be a serving police officer in Toro Local Government Area, LGA, of Bauchi State. The incident came a few hours after security agencies secured the release of 33 kidnap victims in Alkaleri LGA of the State.

10. An Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of a man, Sunday Clement, in prison custody for allegedly killing and beheading a farmer, Taye Alatoye. The 24-year-old labourer was arrested by men of the state police command and arraigned on a one-count charge of murder.
