1. The Senate, on Thursday, confirmed the appointment of the Service Chiefs nominated by President Bola Tinubu. This was a sequel to the consideration and approval of a motion brought by the Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele. The Service Chiefs are Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshall Hassan Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; and Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff.

2. Police authorities, on Thursday, in Abuja, paraded no fewer than 20 suspects arrested for offences including conspiracy, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, possession of illicit drugs, among others. One of the suspects is 32-year-old Yusuf Isah who was arrested in connection with the October 2022 attack on the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

3. Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun, on Thursday, called for the immediate dismissal and prosecution of the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, over the role he played in the 2023 presidential elections.

4. President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on food security in the country. Dele Alake, Presidential spokesman, made this known on Thursday while briefing State House correspondents. The President directed that all matters pertaining to food and water availability and affordability, as essential livelihood items, be included within the purview of the National Security Council (NSC).

5. The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has charged Godwin Emiefele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to court. The secret police said this in response to the order of a high court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that Emefiele should be released within seven days or charged to court immediately.

6. A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, accusing the Department of State Services (DSS) of rights violation. In a judgment on Thursday, James Omotosho held that Kanu’s suit lacked merit because he failed to establish his claim that his rights were violated by the security agency.

7. President Bola Tinubu has assured women that his administration will do all that is required to retrieve the country from the stranglehold of those who have stifled her growth and development. Tinubu gave the assurance when he received in audience the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leaders from the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja led by the APC National Woman Leader, Dr. Betta Edu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

8. The naira on Thursday recorded a massive gain of N36 to close at N746/$ in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window– official market. Thursday’s rebound showed two-day straight gain in the official market over improved liquidity and transaction activities.

9. The Independent National Electoral Commission has said the Labour Party has no ground to call for the sack of its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, over the outcome of the 2023 general election. The Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi stated this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja.

10. Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, escaped death on Wednesday, when a section of the state high court complex collapsed on him while in the office. Justice Adeyeye is said to be currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in the state.
