
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a major tragedy was narrowly avoided on Monday when a two-storey building under construction collapsed at Number 3 Craig Street, off Apata Road in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.
The incident happened around 1 pm and caused panic in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, both construction workers and members of a nearby church Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Liberty Parishwere able to flee the scene in time.
The falling structure partially damaged the church building, but worshippers inside managed to escape without harm.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the collapse occurred during the concrete decking process.
He added that a preliminary investigation showed that no one was trapped under the debris.
Authorities have since sealed off the construction site to ensure safety and begin further investigations.
