Kogi Passes Signage Bill, Presidential Candidates To Pay N10m For Poster

The Kogi State House of Assembly has passed the 2022 signage bill into law which requires political parties and presidential candidates to pay about N10 million for posters and billboards.

 

Newsonline reports that the signage bill also recommends an immediate creation of a Signage Agency to enforce the bill when signed into law.

 

The new signage law is coming after the Anambra State government had put up a similar one for presidential candidates and political parties.

 

Anambra State government, through its Signage and Advertising Agency, had started the practice when it announced that presidential candidates and other political candidates will have to pay fees ranging from N10 million to N1 million before they could be allowed to paste or mount posters.

Newsonline had reported that the campaign for the 2023 general election will start on September 28, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the new Electoral Act, 2022.

 

The bill stipulated that candidates vying for the governorship position in the state have to pay N5 million while senatorial and House of Representatives candidates will pay N2 million and N1 million respectively.

 

Also, individuals seeking House of Assembly and council chairmanship seats will pay N500,000 as levies to advertise their posters.
