‘It’s snapshot’, Senator Sani, Nigerians Condemn New Naira Notes

The new N200, N500 and N1000 notes redesigned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have gained condemnation from Nigerians, including from Senator Shehu Sani.

 

Newsonline reports that the new naira notes for the denominations of N200, N500 and N1000 was launched today (Wednesday) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

According to CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, the redesign was long overdue, stating that the redesign would help to curb currency hoarding by kidnappers and bandits.

 

However, the posting of the new naira notes on Twitter by the special aide to Buhari on Digital media, Bashir Ahmad, Nigerians have condemned by the notes.

 

Most Nigerians on social media said colour toning was carried out on the new naira notes and not redesigned.

 

Former senator of Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani said that the redesign was poor work that seemed more like a Snapchat photo.

 

He said, “If it’s Naira colour, the CBN should have just engage Snapchat.”

 

A social media influencer, Rinu Oduala, in her reaction to the newly designed N200, N500 and N1000 notes wrote, “So what was the naira redesign all about?”

 

CBN May Go To Court Over retaining Of Arabic writings On The New Naira Notes.

 

While Nigerians are condemning the redesign done by the CBN, the apex financial bank of the country may have its days in court following the retaining of Arabic writings on the new naira notes.

 

A human rights lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo who instituted a court action on Tuesday against the retaining of the Arabic writings on the country’s currency said he is watching the official release of the newly redesigned naira notes.

 

Malcolm said, “At the Federal High Court yesterday (Tuesday). In the main, my prayer is that the court should expunge Arabic inscription on subsequent Naira notes. So far I cannot ascertain if the redesigned Naira notes have Arabic inscription, I am watching.”
