INEC Denies Releasing 2027 General Election Timetable

INEC has denied releasing 2027 General Election Timetable.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked reports suggesting that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Friday, Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, said the claims were false and misleading, stressing that the commission has not published any timetable for the 2027 polls.

INEC emphasised that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 requires the commission to publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election,” the statement said.

“The Commission wishes to state clearly that this information is false and misleading. INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 general election.”

The commission added that any timetable or schedule purportedly issued outside the statutory timeframe could not have originated from INEC.

INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election would be released in due course, in full compliance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.

It further stated that once released, the timetable would be communicated through its verified and official channels, urging the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely solely on information from INEC’s authorised platforms for accurate updates.
