NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nigerian singer Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has shared his intention to get a tribal mark when he turns 50.

The 45-year-old artist revealed this in a recent video posted on his TikTok page.

According to the Ogbomosho-born star, the decision is a tribute to his father, who bears the same traditional mark.

9ice revealed, “By the time I’m 50, I’ll get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. Many of my guys think I won’t go through with it, but they’ll see.”

Renowned for his rich use of Yoruba language, proverbial lyrics, and distinct vocal style, 9ice rose to fame in 2008 with his hit song Gongo Aso. Over the years, he has released several successful albums and singles that cemented his place in the Nigerian music industry.

In an interview with Nancy Isime in August 2025, the singer opened up about his spiritual journey, revealing that he is now a traditional worshipper. He recounted how he turned to an Ifa priest after suffering a “spiritual attack” that caused him to vomit blood for six months.

After finding healing, 9ice said he regretted not embracing traditional worship earlier in his life.
