Newsonline reports that the horror going on in communities across Katsina State was made known by Bashir Kurfi a community leader who spoke to BBC Hausa.
Bashir Kurfi, an elder and member of the Security Assurance Program for the communities of Katsina narrated an ordeal in which 40 bandits raped nine women after using them as slaves on their farms.
Gorier, according to Bashir, was that the bandits go to households and command families to bring out their women, and rape all the women in their compound.
Bashir said, “You will see a village will be attacked and married women will be kidnapped or they will be gathered in one place and be raped by these bandits.”
Kurfi added, “Now there are even villages that the bandits will call the head of household and ask him to bring his wife or daughter for one week to be with them.”
Kurfi said further, “The leader of the bandits will come with his boys to the village, they will eject everybody out of the house and rape our children and collect all our belongings…we even farm for them, what is happening is just like the old days’ slavery.”
He told BBC Hausa that gangs have occupied people’s homes in many villages, where they force the owners to live in makeshifts and work on farms taken over by the bandits to produce food for the terrorists. At the same time, they are serially raping women and girls.
Dr. Kurfi cited one incident that he witnessed in which 40 bandits gang-raped nine women for a whole night.
According to him, he took the victims to the Federal Medical Centre. But when doctors at the FMC checked the victims, they advised that they should be taken to a Urology Hospital (which treats urinary-tract system) because the damage done was beyond the capacity of an FMC.
A Nigerian lawyer, Bulama Bukarti asked, ” This horror is unfolding in Buhari’s own state. Can other states expect better?”
The activities of bandits are causing so much human calamity mostly in the Northern part of Nigeria, all states included, from Zamfara to Kaduna, to Katsina, to Niger, to Bauchi, to Taraba, Kebbi, to Sokoto.
