Tinubu Transmits Anti-Doping Bill, FCTA’s Supplementary Budget To Senate For Passage

On the request for passage of the Anti-Doping Bill, Tinubu urged the Red Chamber to pass it before the next Olympic Games in July this year.

President Tinubu has transmitted the Anti-Doping Bill and FCTA’s Supplementary Budget to the Senate for passage.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a National Anti-Doping Bill, 2024 and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Statutory Appropriation Act 2024, Supplementary Bill to the Senate for consideration and passage.

This Nigeria news platform understands that President Tinubu’s letters of request were read on the floor of the Senate during plenary by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin who presided over the session.

 

On the request for passage of the Anti-Doping Bill, Tinubu urged the Red Chamber to pass it before the next Olympic Games in July this year.

The letter reads, “In accordance with the provisions of Section 58 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, I forward herewith the National Anti-Doping Bill 2024 for the kind consideration of the Senate.

 

“The National Anti-Doping Bill 2024 seeks to create an administratively independent national anti-doping organisation which is a cardinal requirement for Nigeria to achieve compliance with the world anti-doping code and the international standard of good compliance by its signatories.

“The advancement of this virtualisation will also help Nigeria avoid the imposition of signatory consequences, the closing of laws of hosting and participating rights at regional, continental and world championships or major athletic events.

“It is my hope that this submission will receive the usual kind and expeditious consideration of the distinguished members of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for passage of same-age law before the Olympic Games coming up in Paris in July 2024.”

 

In a separate letter, Tinubu also requested the Senate’s expeditious consideration and passage of the FCTA Statutory Appropriation Act, 2024 Supplementary Bill.

 

Tinubu said: “Following a review of the 2024 Statutory Appropriation of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration has indicated that some critical projects were inadvertently omitted in the 2024 appropriation.

 

“The capital projects are a vital component of the performance of the FCT and shall significantly impact manpower and infrastructural development within the FCT.

 

“In this regard, the 2024 Supplementary Appropriation to the 2024 Statutory Appropriation Act of the Federal Capital Territory Administration passed in March 2024 is hereby proposed. I trust that it shall receive the expeditious consideration of and passage by the Senate.”
