NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obasa made the declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Agege, Lagos, in preparation for the All Progressives Congress primaries.
The sixth-term lawmaker said his decision followed consultations with party leaders and stakeholders within the constituency, who urged him to seek election into the House of Representatives.
“I answered the call of our leaders and stakeholders who believe I can serve Agege better,” Obasa said while addressing party members and supporters.
He also appealed to party members to remain united and committed as the APC prepares for its screening and primary exercises across the state.
During the meeting, Obasa endorsed former Agege Local Government chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, who is contesting for Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“Egunjobi has served our people diligently and deserves the support of all loyal party members,” he stated.
The speaker also canvassed support for Azeez Ninolowo, describing him as a capable and committed aspirant for Agege Constituency II.
According to Obasa, Agege requires experienced representatives who understand the needs and challenges facing residents.
“We must present candidates with capacity, loyalty and commitment to the progress of Agege,” he added.
The declaration has intensified political activities in Agege and Orile-Agege, with supporters of various aspirants stepping up mobilisation efforts ahead of the APC primaries.
The development also appears to have ended speculations linking Obasa with a possible governorship ambition in Lagos State ahead of 2027.
