Hollywood Icon Robert Redford is dead.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Legendary Actor, director, and producer Robert Redford has passed away at the age of 89.

According to U.S. media reports, the Hollywood veteran died peacefully in his sleep early Tuesday morning at his home in Utah. His longtime publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed the news in a statement, noting that Redford was surrounded by family at his Sundance residence.

“He will be missed greatly,” Berger said, adding that the family has requested privacy during this time.

Born Charles Robert Redford Jr. on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, Redford shot to international fame with his breakout role alongside Paul Newman in the 1969 Western classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

He later transitioned from acting to directing, earning an Academy Award for Best Director. Redford also co-founded the world-renowned Sundance Film Festival, which became a global platform for independent filmmakers.

Beyond Hollywood, Redford was a committed environmentalist, dedicating decades to the preservation of Utah’s landscapes and natural resources.

Spanning more than six decades, his career and activism made him one of the most influential figures in American cinema and culture.
