Governor Fubara has cancelled ₦134bn Secretariat Contract and ordered refund of ₦20bn mobilisation fee.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Rivers State Executive Council has made far-reaching decisions at its first meeting since Governor Siminalayi Fubara lifted the six-month state of emergency.

At the meeting held at the Government House, Port Harcourt, the Council reviewed several contracts and policies implemented during the emergency period.

Governor Fubara presided over the session, which was attended by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, eight retained commissioners, and the Permanent Secretaries of Works and Education.

After extensive deliberations, the Council terminated the ₦134 billion contract for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex, which was previously awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

The company has been directed to refund the ₦20 billion mobilisation fee it received.

In addition, the Council ordered a fresh bidding process for other revoked projects in Opobo/Nkoro and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Areas, which were initially advertised in February.

To enhance digital learning and examination infrastructure, the Council approved a six-man committee chaired by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu to identify suitable locations for Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state.

The Council also instructed the flood management committee, also chaired by the Deputy Governor, to take immediate measures to mitigate flash floods in affected communities and warned residents against blocking drainage channels.

Furthermore, the meeting approved new initiatives to address youth unemployment and realign government priorities in education, environmental sustainability, and job creation.
