The former president, her husband Idriss Derby who won an election for the 6th time on April 11, 2021, was killed while fighting rebels, a development that ensued confusion having his son taken over.

But the wife according to reports amid a coup in N’djamena crossed the Chad-Cameroun border incognito and has accepted guarantees of protection and financial security from the 88-year-old President Biya.

Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that Yaoundé gave her the opportunity to leave N’djamena with the help of French secret service officers operating in Chad.
It was also stated that in Yaoundé, Paul Biya’s decision was made in the best interest of the late President Idriss Derby’s children.
