Housing Fraud Reporting Portal

FG has launched housing fraud reporting portal to combat real estate scams.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has unveiled a web-based Housing Fraud Reporting platform designed to allow Nigerians to report fraudulent activities in housing estates nationwide.

The portal, accessible at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, enables users to submit complaints and provide evidence of malpractice in the real estate sector.

Speaking at the live launch, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, explained that the initiative is guided by the 2012 National Housing Policy, which mandates the government to establish a regulatory framework to monitor housing delivery and ensure that professionals in the built environment are properly certified.

“The policy empowers us to strengthen oversight of estate developers, enforce regulations, and move toward creating a National Housing and Urban Development Regulatory Commission to coordinate the sector,” Dangiwa said.

He emphasized that the Housing Fraud Detection and Reporting Portal will provide a credible and transparent channel for Nigerians to report fraud, track cases, and hold culprits accountable.

“Hardworking citizens have long fallen victim to unscrupulous actors in the housing sector. This portal ensures closer scrutiny of developers, tighter monitoring of real estate practices, and stronger enforcement against fraudulent actors,” the minister added.

Dangiwa further assured that sharp practices will not be tolerated, noting that the Ministry will collaborate with professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary to ensure offenders face the full weight of the law.

He also commended Permanent Secretary Dr. Shuaib Belgore, committee members, and technical consultants for their role in bringing the system to fruition.

Deputy Director and Head of ICT, Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, revealed that the platform was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He described the portal as user-friendly, empowering citizens to submit complaints and critical information on fraudulent real estate practices.

“The ministry will carefully review all reports submitted and work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure proper investigation and decisive action against culprits,” Amiolemen stated.

Dangiwa concluded, “Our goal is simple: a housing sector where Nigerians can invest and own homes confidently, free from fear of fraud, restoring trust, and moving closer to safe, decent, and affordable housing for all.”
