FCT Minister Wike Dismisses Health Rumours, Says Critics Will ‘Die Before Him’

Wike advised public officials to prioritise their health, reminding them that government would continue regardless of who holds office.

FCT Minister Wike has dismissed health rumours and stating that his critics will ‘die before him’.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday dismissed rumours about his alleged ill-health, declaring that those wishing him dead would “die before him.”

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II, Wike described the speculation as politically motivated falsehoods spread on social media.

“Before I know it, they said I was sick. They said I had a heart attack. God will continue to help them to have heart attack. It is my prayer that I will be the one to sign their condolence registers,” Wike said.

The minister stressed that despite claims of illness, he had maintained a relentless work schedule since assuming office, often working during travel and foregoing holidays.

“Since I took this appointment, I have never had time to travel on holidays. Each time I travel, I go with files and CFOs to ensure work continues,” he explained.

Wike advised public officials to prioritise their health, reminding them that government would continue regardless of who holds office.

On the wider culture of criticism, he faulted the level of political discourse in Nigeria, contrasting it with practices in the United States. “This is a country where someone on social media can call the President a criminal, and nothing happens. Have you ever seen an American citizen publicly call their president a criminal?” he asked.

Wike concluded by praising President Bola Tinubu for upholding the rule of law, insisting Nigerians were fortunate to have such leadership.

The road project he commissioned is expected to reduce traffic congestion and enhance infrastructure development in Abuja.
