Falana To Challenge Inibehe's Unjust Proceedings, Incarceration In Court

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana has stated that he will challenge the proceeding that led to the incarceration of Effiong Inibehe by Akwa-Ibom State Chief Judge.

Newsonline reports that Femi Falana said he has spoken with Inibehe who was released today, Friday, after serving one month remind in Correctional center.

Recall that Akwa Ibom State Chief Judge, Ekaette Obot, July 27, sentenced Effiong to prison by Obot after he protested against the presence of armed policemen in court.

Inibehe was in court to defend Leo Ekpenyong, a lawyer, in a libel suit filed by Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom.

On August 3, the Nigerian Bar Association said the lawyer was not given a fair hearing before he was sent to prison by the judge, and the organization threatened to petition the judge at the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Inibehe shortly after his release from the Correctional center wrote, “I am back, stronger and more determined to confront the forces of oppression and to continue to speak nothing but the hard truth to the faces of the oppressors of our people. I feel sorry for those who thought they can break my spirit by incarcerating me.”

Speaking, Falana said he will ““challenge all aspects of his unjust, unfair and cruel proceedings in court.”
