Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Set to Dump PDP for APC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Enugu Governor Peter Mbah is set to dump PDP for APC ahead of 2027 elections.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State is reportedly set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) next week, a political move described by insiders as one of the most significant realignments in the South-East ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was confirmed on Friday in Abuja by APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South-East), Chief Emma Eneukwu, during the inauguration of the newly constituted Enugu State APC caretaker committee.

The caretaker team, chaired by former state chairman Dr. Ben Nwoye, was sworn in at the party’s national secretariat amid mounting speculation over Mbah’s imminent defection.

Speaking with journalists after the event, Nwoye revealed that Governor Mbah would officially join the APC at a grand reception scheduled to hold in Enugu next week.

“Governor Peter Mbah will be joining the All Progressives Congress with all his appointees,” Nwoye stated. “His decision will further strengthen the APC’s structure and influence in Enugu State and across the South-East.”

He added that the new caretaker committee had been tasked with reconciling aggrieved members, mobilizing grassroots supporters, and preparing for the 2027 polls.

The APC leadership hailed Mbah’s planned defection as a “major political milestone,” noting that it would further consolidate the party’s hold in regions previously dominated by the PDP and Labour Party.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, may also be in advanced talks to defect to the APC. Though he has not made any public declaration, sources from both parties confirmed that discussions are ongoing between his camp and top APC leaders.

If confirmed, the defections of both Mbah and Kefas would deal a heavy blow to the PDP’s influence in the South-East and North-East zones as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
