The Lagos State Police Command has said police personnel shot teargas canisters at unarmed, peaceful protesters making the #endsarsmemorial at Lekki toll-gate in Lagos because of violence of some of the protesters.
Newsonline reports that Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated this on Thursday.
Nigerian youths in large numbers and celebrities, on Wednesday, flooded the Lekki Toll gate to mark the 20 October 2020 shooting of youths who were protesting against police brutality.

Eyewitnesses at the Lekki Toll gate said police fired teargas canisters on the peaceful protesters, majorly youths on Wednesday (today).
Reacting Hundayin said, “Peaceful persons were allowed to move around without interference from the police. Some of them that decided to be lawless and start mounting the toll complex, an action threatening the existing law and order in the area, were dispersed with teargas.
“There was no use of baton, neither was there physical contact. We equally do not have any record of shooting. We would, however, appreciate evidence of gunshots, maybe a video, to enable us take appropriate action.”
Also, former senator, Ben Murray Bruce has added his voice in commorating the #Endsarsmemorial on Wednesday.
Bruce in a tweet said, “We will never forget. I stand with all the victims of #EndSARS and all who were intimidated at various times that led to the call for the end of #PoliceBrutality. We will never forget it!”
