El-Rufai has accused Tinubu of plotting ‘President-for-Life’ Rule and worse than military dictatorship.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has warned that President Bola Tinubu could attempt to cling to power for life if Nigerians fail to unite and vote him out in 2027.

El-Rufai issued the warning on Saturday while receiving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who paid him a solidarity visit following an attack by suspected APC thugs during the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.

The ex-governor accused Tinubu’s administration of undermining democracy, describing it as “worse than any military regime” in Nigeria’s history.

He said:

“It’s a disgrace for people to behave the way they are behaving. It means all the years we fought for democracy and NADECO was fake, a pretense. This government is centralizing power instead of devolving it. What we are facing is an evil of historic proportion. If we don’t come together to end this administration in 2027, Tinubu will try to be our Paul Biya — president for life. All the signs are there.”

El-Rufai further argued that under Tinubu, Nigeria has witnessed political intimidation that surpasses both civilian and military governments of the past.

“When you and Obasanjo were in power, nobody was jailed for political reasons. Even Buhari, despite his military background, never attempted this. But what we are seeing today is worse than any military regime we’ve ever had,” he told Atiku.

He urged opposition parties and Nigerians at large to unite ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that “APC must go.”
