EFCC has summoned Former Imo Governor Emeka Ihedioha over financial investigations.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, for questioning over an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities during his administration.

According to a letter dated July 18 and signed by Abdukarim Chukkol, Director of Investigation at the EFCC, the anti-graft agency is probing a case that requires specific information from certain Imo State government officials who served between May 29, 2019, and January 14, 2020.

The letter, addressed to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Imo State, instructed that the listed officials appear before the Head of the Economic Governance Section-1 at EFCC headquarters on August 11, 2025. They are expected to bring along all payment approvals, vouchers, returns, and schedules of payments within the specified period.

Sources disclosed that Ihedioha, who had been abroad, recently returned to Nigeria and will honour the EFCC’s invitation.

The development comes amid the agency’s recent detention of former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, over alleged ₦189 billion cash withdrawals.

Political insiders claim both invitations may have political undertones. One source alleged that months before the summons, close associates of President Bola Tinubu had approached Ihedioha to align with the current administration a request he reportedly declined.

While EFCC officials have not publicly commented on the nature of the allegations against Ihedioha, the investigation is expected to scrutinise transactions carried out during his brief tenure as Imo governor.
