NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, have arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in coordinated raids across Warri, Delta State, and Owerri, Imo State.
The suspects were picked up following credible intelligence linking them to internet-related crimes, including cryptocurrency scams and money laundering.
According to the EFCC, the suspects were apprehended while using various internet-enabled devices to allegedly defraud unsuspecting victims.
A suspected kingpin of the syndicate, identified as Robert Ebuka Chukwuedo, reportedly fled his residence on Commissioner Street to evade arrest. However, operatives arrested several of his associates within the mansion.
Items recovered during the operations include luxury vehicles, laptops, smartphones, and fetish objects allegedly used in carrying out fraudulent activities.
The EFCC confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
