EFCC has declared Ex-Abia Commissioner Enweremadu wanted for alleged LG Funds diversion.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Prince Christopher Enweremadu, former Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, wanted over alleged criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing, and money laundering.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency listed Enweremadu’s last known address as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Umuahia, Abia State.

The Commission urged anyone with useful information about his whereabouts to contact its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or Abuja.

Enweremadu, who served under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, is linked to ongoing probes into the management of funds allocated to Abia’s 17 local government councils.

In December 2024, a Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered investigations into the disbursement of local government funds between 2019 and 2023. The court also directed the seizure of the international passports of Enweremadu, ex-gubernatorial aide Erondu Uchenna Erondu, and Deaconess Joy Nwanju, a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry.

The investigation followed an ex parte motion by an activist who alleged that billions of naira released to local councils during the period were mismanaged under the supervision of the indicted officials.
