Crisis is currently rocking Kogi ADC as factions suspend each other over alleged anti-party activities.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a deepening leadership crisis has engulfed the Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as rival factions within the party have issued conflicting suspensions and reaffirmed expulsions in a power struggle laced with accusations of anti-party activities.

At the heart of the turmoil is the suspension of Hon. Leke Abejide, the party’s only elected federal lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency, along with four others, Dr. Idris Omede, Hon. Johnson Tayo, Lukman Usman Adedayo, and Olabode Kayode.

The suspensions were announced on Monday by the State Working Committee (SWC) during a meeting chaired by the faction loyal to State Chairman Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga. State Secretary John Adaji told reporters that the affected members were being sanctioned for alleged anti-party conduct and insubordination. He stated the suspension takes effect from August 4, 2025, and was unanimously agreed upon by the SWC.

Adaji further disclosed that the suspended individuals have been summoned to appear before the party’s National Working Committee at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja next Monday for further disciplinary proceedings. He also announced that a vote of confidence had been passed on Ogga and himself.

However, the crisis took another turn as a rival faction of the SWC dismissed Ogga’s legitimacy, insisting he remains expelled from the party.

Speaking on behalf of the opposing camp, factional Public Relations Officer Johnson Tayo dismissed the announcement as null and void, asserting that Ogga had been expelled since 2022, a decision ratified from ward to state level, and never reversed.

Tayo described Ogga’s claim to the chairmanship as “a figment of his imagination” and emphasized that he lacks the legal and moral authority to speak or act on behalf of the ADC.

He further rejected the authority of the ADC Coalition Movement led by former Senate President David Mark, stating it does not reflect the wishes of party members in Kogi State.

Reaffirming loyalty to Hon. Leke Abejide, Tayo insisted the lawmaker remains the legitimate leader of the party in Kogi, being the only elected ADC official nationwide.

As the battle for control escalates, the future of the ADC in Kogi hangs in the balance, with fears the crisis could affect the party’s stability ahead of future elections.
