Chelsea Complete Signing of Nigerian Defender Justin Osagie

The 18-year-old centre-back joins the Blues after an impressive spell at West Ham, strengthening Chelsea’s defensive prospects for the future.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian central defender Justin Osagie.

The 20-year-old joins the Blues on an undisclosed deal after impressing during a successful trial at Stamford Bridge.

Osagie makes the move to Chelsea following the expiration of his contract with Peterborough United.

During his trial at Stamford Bridge, Justin Osagie reportedly impressed Chelsea’s academy coaches, earning himself a permanent contract with the club.

The young defender has since been integrated into the Blues’ development squad and was named among the substitutes for their EFL Trophy clash against Northampton Town.

Osagie’s journey has seen him progress through several clubs — from Southend United to West Ham United, then Celtic — before signing for Peterborough United in 2024 following another standout trial.

Over the years, top Premier League sides including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Brighton & Hove Albion were all said to have expressed interest in the promising centre-back.

Osagie remains eligible to represent both Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland at international level.
