CAC has postponed new service fee implementation to September amid user challenges.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has postponed the implementation of its revised service fees and penalties until September 1, 2025, citing transitional difficulties experienced by users on its upgraded Company Registration Portal (CRP).

The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday, titled “Postponement of Implementation of New Fees and Penalties for Document Downloads.”

Initially scheduled to take effect on August 1, the revised fees are now delayed by a month following concerns raised by users and stakeholders over difficulties in document downloads, payment processing, post-incorporation filings for business names, and the uploading of key documents.

The Commission said the adjustment in fees was intended to enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and reflect rising costs driven by broader economic conditions. However, it acknowledged that users are still experiencing system-related hiccups during the transition.

Technical Challenges and Stakeholder Feedback Prompt Delay

“In view of the current transitional challenges some users are experiencing… the Commission wishes to announce the postponement of the implementation of the new fees and penalties for document downloads beyond 7 days,” the statement read.

The CAC emphasized that the postponement was a response to feedback and part of its commitment to a seamless user experience. It also assured that it is actively working with technical partners to stabilize the platform without a complete shutdown.

“This temporary relief is part of our commitment to supporting businesses and ensuring a seamless user experience during this transition phase,” the Commission added, while expressing appreciation for users’ patience.

Wider Trend of Government Fee Increases

CAC’s announcement follows a wave of recent service fee hikes by other government agencies. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) earlier revised prices for various NIN-related services, with changes taking effect from May 2, 2025.

NIMC’s adjustments include a 75% increase in the cost of correcting a date of birth, raising the fee from N16,630 to N28,574. While some fee exemptions were introduced — such as for date-of-birth corrections caused by staff error — the agency justified the overall review by pointing to a decade of stagnant pricing amid rising operational costs.

Both agencies argue that their price adjustments are necessary to sustain service quality and align with current economic realities while continuing to ensure accessibility.
