The President of Nigeria Senate, Ahmed Lawan has described as false a report by one of the dailies stating that he has no plan to appeal the judgement of Federal High Court Damaturu that recognized Bashir Machina as the Yobe North senatorial candidate.
Newsonline reports that the clarification came again after a report from Saharareporters emerged on Saturday alleging Lawan was getting ready to file an appeal of the judgement.
However, in a statement on Saturday evening, released by Ola Awoniyi, Lawan’s Special Adviser(Media) said the exclusive report was false.
The statement read in part, “We have seen a report circulating online by the Sahara Reporters with regards to the APC candidature for the 2023 senatorial election in Yobe North.
“The report claims that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, made a u-turn on his earlier decision not to appeal the judgement of the Federal High Court, Damaturu in Yobe State which voided his candidature for the election.
“The report is utter falsehood. It is just another fabrication by the discredited habitual purveyor of fake and malicious news – Sahara Reporters.
“For the umpteenth time, we want to emphasize that the Senate President has no intention to appeal against the court judgement.

“If anybody is dissatisfied and decides to challenge the verdict of the court, it has nothing to do with the Senate President.
“The Senate President has made his own position public and has since moved on. He is a man of his words.
“We therefore urge reasonable members of the public to accord the fake Sahara Reporters’ report nothing other than the contempt it deserves.”
According to the report which emerged Satruday afternoon, “A competent source revealed to SaharaReporters that Lawan initially did not buy the idea of appealing the judgement, but some individuals who see Machina as a threat to their political career had been mounting pressures on him to agree and go on with the appeal.”
The report added, “The anti-Machina group headed by the Chief of Staff to the governor who also headed the voided June 9 senatorial primary poll is shopping for another lawyer to file the appeal as they are not satisfied with the performance of Ahmad Raji at the Federal High Court,” the source revealed.”
The senate president, Lawan, had on September 29, in reaction to the judgement said, “The said judgement disqualifies my candidature and therefore my participation in the elections.
“After due consultations with my political associates, supporters and well-wishers, I have decided not to appeal against the judgement. I accept the judgement.”
