The administration cited the agency’s alleged mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, failure to adopt essential reforms, and susceptibility to political influence as reasons for the decision.

The US Government has officially cut all ties with WHO over Trump’s withdrawal from the global health body.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a directive for all employees to cease collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) immediately.

In a memo obtained by the Associated Press, CDC official John Nkengasong instructed agency staff engaged in WHO partnerships—including technical groups, advisory boards, and cooperative agreements—to suspend all activities.

The memo also prohibits CDC personnel from visiting WHO offices.

This drastic measure follows President Donald Trump’s executive order withdrawing the United States from the WHO.

The administration cited the agency’s alleged mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, failure to adopt essential reforms, and susceptibility to political influence as reasons for the decision.

The withdrawal has sparked concern among global health experts, who warn that it could severely undermine international health initiatives.

In response, the WHO expressed its commitment to maintaining dialogue with the US, speaking on the importance of their collaboration in tackling global health emergencies and strengthening healthcare systems.

“The partnership with the United States has been instrumental in driving impactful health reforms and responding to crises worldwide,” the WHO stated, urging the US to reconsider its stance.
