BREAKING: Trump Intensifies Threats of Military Action Over Alleged Killings of Christians in Nigeria

President Trump has intensified threats of military action over alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that U.S. President Donald Trump has escalated warnings that Washington could undertake military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government fails to halt what he described as targeted killings of Christians.

In a video address on Wednesday which was delivered behind a lectern bearing the presidential seal, Trump reiterated his October 31 designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” and accused “radical Islamists” of carrying out a “mass slaughter” of Christians. He said the United States would consider a range of responses, including cutting aid and, if necessary, military strikes or troop deployments.

“If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid assistance to Nigeria,” Trump said. He added that he had instructed the U.S. Department of War to “prepare for possible actions,” warning that any strike would be “vicious and sweet” and urging Nigerian authorities to act quickly.

Trump framed the situation as existential for Christians in Nigeria. “Thousands and thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” he said, calling on Congress to investigate the allegations. He asked Representatives Riley Moore and Tom Cole, chair of the House Appropriations Committee, to examine the matter and report back to him promptly.

Beyond military options, Trump emphasised the immediate suspension of U.S. aid as a likely response if the killings continue and framed the administration’s posture as part of a broader effort to protect Christian communities globally. “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” he said.

The comments are likely to deepen diplomatic tensions with Abuja. Nigerian authorities have previously rejected characterisations that frame the country’s insecurity as exclusively religious, and have called for dialogue and cooperation to address the complex drivers of violence.
