President Trump US Government has approved $346m sale of Precision Ammunition and Rockets to Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the United States Department of State has approved a potential sale of ammunition, precision bombs, and rockets to Nigeria, valued at an estimated $346 million.

The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the required certification has been sent to the U.S. Congress.

According to DSCA, Nigeria’s request includes:

  • 1,002 MK-82 general-purpose 500lb bombs

  • 1,002 MXU-650 Air Foil Groups for Paveway II GBU-12

  • 515 MXU-1006 AFGs for Paveway II GBU-58

  • 1,517 MAU-169 or MAU-209 computer control groups for GBU-12/GBU-58

  • 1,002 FMU-152 joint programmable fuzes

  • 5,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II rounds (with guidance sections, warheads, and rocket motors)

Non-major defence equipment in the package includes bomb components, impulse cartridges, high-explosive and practice rockets, integration support, test equipment, and logistics services.

DSCA said the sale will enhance Nigeria’s ability to combat terrorist threats, curb illicit trafficking, and strengthen security in the Gulf of Guinea, without altering the regional military balance.

The principal contractors for the deal will be RTX Missiles and Defense (Arizona), Lockheed Martin Corporation (Pennsylvania), and BAE Systems (New Hampshire).

There are no proposed offset agreements, and the sale will not require additional U.S. personnel in Nigeria. The DSCA added that it will have no adverse impact on U.S. defence readiness.
