BREAKING: Tinubu Moves To Shorten Fubara’s Six Months Suspension

Wike was notably absent from the London talks and is reportedly wary of being sidelined.

President Tinubu has reportedly moved to shorten Fubara’s six months suspension after London meeting.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu is reportedly taking steps to shorten Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s six-month suspension in a significant move aimed to ease the political tensions in Rivers State.

This Nigeria news platfornm understands that the move follows a closed-door meeting in London between the two leaders during Tinubu’s recent European retreat.

According to sources close to the presidency, Fubara pledged to make key concessions during the discussions, signaling a possible end to the crisis that has paralyzed governance in the oil-rich state. A senior adviser, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed ongoing negotiations and hinted that the governor’s suspension could be lifted ahead of the scheduled September deadline.

Political insiders say Fubara may consider joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a shift that could realign state level politics and bolster Tinubu’s influence in the South-South region.

This marks the first direct engagement between Tinubu and Fubara since the president imposed emergency rule in Rivers State on March 18, citing security breakdown and political unrest, including a public rift with former governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Tensions had reached a boiling point after Fubara demolished the state assembly complex and clashes erupted over legislative defections and court rulings. Explosions and pipeline attacks further escalated the crisis, prompting federal intervention.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Wike was notably absent from the London talks and is reportedly wary of being sidelined. However, sources suggest a broader reconciliation effort is underway, with Tinubu expected to convene a three-way meeting involving Wike, Fubara, and key lawmakers in the coming weeks.
