NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential flagbearer, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The development comes shortly after Obi announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) earlier on Sunday amid internal crises within the party.
The two opposition figures were officially received at the NDC national headquarters in Abuja by the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, alongside the National Chairman of the party, Moses Cleopas.
Party leaders described the defection of Obi and Kwankwaso as a major political boost for the NDC and a sign of increasing nationwide confidence in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources within the party said the move is part of broader political realignments currently taking shape across opposition circles as preparations intensify for the next presidential election.
The entry of Obi and Kwankwaso into the NDC is expected to significantly reshape opposition politics and strengthen discussions around a possible coalition platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Although neither politician has formally declared interest in the 2027 presidential race, political observers believe their latest move signals renewed positioning ahead of the contest.
