BREAKING: NDC Speaks on Rumoured Defection of Peter Obi, Kwankwaso From ADC

“Discussions with key opposition leaders, including some members of the APC, are ongoing, and the doors of the NDC remain open to anyone willing to join the effort to salvage the nation,” Abdulsalam said.

NDC has spoken on the rumoured defection of Peter Obi and Kwankwaso from ADC.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Democratic Congress has clarified that the reported defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the party remains uncertain.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Abdulmumin Ohiare Abdulsalam, made the clarification in a statement issued on Saturday following widespread reports linking the two opposition figures to the party.

Abdulsalam explained that his earlier comments to a journalist were speculative and focused more on political possibilities than confirmed developments.

“My recent response to an inquiry regarding the possibility of defections by Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Mr Peter Gregory Obi dwelt more on probability rather than certainty,” he stated.

According to him, some media platforms sensationalised the comments, creating the impression that the defections had already been concluded.

The NDC maintained that while it remains open to welcoming politicians from both the ruling and opposition parties, no official confirmation has been made regarding Obi or Kwankwaso joining the party.

The spokesperson said the party has consistently encouraged politicians dissatisfied with their current platforms to consider joining the NDC, which he described as a movement aimed at rescuing Nigeria.

He added that the party’s leadership remains committed to building alliances and strengthening opposition cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Discussions with key opposition leaders, including some members of the APC, are ongoing, and the doors of the NDC remain open to anyone willing to join the effort to salvage the nation,” Abdulsalam said.

The party also disclosed that consultations among opposition parties on the possibility of forming a broader alliance ahead of the 2027 polls are still underway.

However, the NDC stressed that no final decision has been reached regarding the possible defection of Obi, Kwankwaso, or other prominent political figures.
