Kano Governor Abba Yusuf

President Tinubu is currently meeting with Kano Governor Abba Yusuf at Presidential Villa amid defection rumours.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting is taking place inside the President’s office. Governor Yusuf, dressed in a white agbada and red cap, was seen entering the Villa at about 4:10 pm on Monday.

The high-level engagement comes amid speculation over Yusuf’s planned defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports, however, suggest that negotiations surrounding the possible defection have stalled over disagreements, particularly on whether the Kano governor would be granted an automatic ticket for the 2027 governorship election on the APC platform.

Yusuf’s reported move to the APC has dominated political discussions in recent weeks and has allegedly triggered tensions between his supporters and loyalists of his political benefactor, former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Although no official statement has been issued, the meeting with President Tinubu is widely believed to be connected to the ongoing defection talks.
