SDP, El-Rufai, and Al-Mustapha have convened a “strategic meeting” for the 2027 elections.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, convened a “strategic meeting” at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday, which had Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna, Hamza Al-Mustapha, the ex-aide to the late Sani Abacha, and other politicians in attendance.

 

According to Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation, the Abuja meeting was to “strategise ahead of the 2027 elections.”

His post on Facebook read: “Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, a key meeting was held by His Excellency Shehu Gabam, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with political figures including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, and Segun Showunmi, known as ‘The Alternative’.

 

“The meeting aimed to review the current state of opposition politics and find ways to strengthen it for the upcoming elections.”

‘You must set forth at dawn’

He titled another post “You must set forth at Dawn!” on X (Twitter).

“A strategic meeting called by HE Shehu Gabam, Chairman of SDP, with HE @elrufai El-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Otunba Segun Showunmi.

“‘The Alternative’ to meet and greet and review the state of opposition democratic engagement in Nigeria,” he wrote.
