BREAKING: Rivers Assembly Begins Impeachment Process Against Governor Fubara

Rivers Assembly has initiated impeachment process against Governor Fubara.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the political tension in Rivers State escalated on Thursday as the State House of Assembly formally commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

 

At a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read a notice of allegations accusing Governor Fubara of gross misconduct.

The notice, which was reportedly endorsed by 26 lawmakers, alleged that the governor committed acts in violation of provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

 

Announcing the development, Speaker Amaewhule said the impeachment notice would be officially served on the governor within seven days, in line with legislative procedures.

 

During the same sitting, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, also read out a separate notice containing allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Ngozi Oduh, marking the formal inclusion of the deputy governor in the impeachment process.

 

The move signals a fresh twist in the ongoing political crisis in the state, with further developments expected in the coming days.
