Police have arrested some foreign nationals sponsoring protests with a Russian flag.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigerian Police have announced the arrest of foreign nationals reportedly sponsoring protests with the Russian flag in some northern parts of the country.
This Nigeria news platform understands that the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests against hardship and hunger took a twist over the weekend, with protesters in some Northern states holding up the Russian flag as they chanted “Tinubu must go”.

Reactions have since trailed the development, with human rights activists and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, like Femi Falana, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Mustapha, describing the act as a treasonable offence.
President Bola Tinubu has also frowned at it and ordered a crackdown on protesters using Russian flags.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Kano State police commissioner, Salman Garba, after a security meeting with Governor Abba Yusuf on Tuesday, disclosed that the foreign sponsors of the protest have been apprehended.
According to him, the police and other security agencies will continue to clamp down on anyone trying to temper the security of the state.
He also announced further curfew relaxation from 6 am to 6 pm.
Meanwhile, human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore has stated that flying the Russian flag by the #EndBadGovernance protesters cannot be labelled treason.
Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) had said some people behind the Russian flags being brandished by protesters in some Northern states have been arrested.
The protesters were brandishing Russian flags in Kano on Saturday.
Many of the protesters, in trending videos on social media, were calling for the military to take over the administration of the country.
The Nigerian military said that the protesters were committing treason and will, therefore, be “prosecuted.”
They also announced that they are investigating those instigating this action and will “take serious action” against them.
Reacting to the development via his X handle, Sowore argued that if Christians can fly Israeli flags in churches, then the protesters have done nothing wrong by also flying Russian flags.
