NDLEA has arrested fugitive Prophet Adefolusho linked to major drug trafficking operations.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that after months on the run abroad to evade arrest, Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that Olasele was apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church premises in Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, Lagos. Officers patiently waited throughout the day, moving in immediately after the Sunday service when he stepped outside the church.

The arrest followed Olasele’s two previous failed attempts to evade capture. Since June, after two major seizures of cannabis linked to him, 200kg at Okun Ajah beach on June 4 and 700kg recovered from his delivery van on July 6, he fled to Ghana to avoid prosecution. In a statement, Olasele admitted smuggling the illicit drugs through waterways from Ghana into Nigeria and acknowledged his flight to Ghana after escaping arrest twice.

  • In Kano State, Nura Yahaya was caught with 359kg of skunk on August 8, while Umar Adamu Umar was detained on August 6 with 9kg of synthetic cannabis. Another raid recovered 20,000 tramadol pills and 200 diazepam ampoules from Usman Musa on August 8.

  • In Gombe State, 550,266 tramadol pills were seized on August 8 from an unfinished building, leading to the arrest of Usama Isah. The next day, Ibrahim Adamu was arrested with 50,000 tramadol capsules.

  • In Edo State, NDLEA intercepted a bus on August 6 at Ewu junction, recovering 23,940 tramadol capsules, 1,100 tablets, and 400 pentazocine ampoules, arresting Taiye Jethro.

Alongside enforcement, NDLEA commands nationwide continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization efforts, engaging schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities in Oyo, Kano, Yobe, Benue, Ekiti, and Anambra states.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended officers for their outstanding work in arrests and seizures and urged continued balanced approaches in drug control efforts across Nigeria.
