NASS has moved to bar Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi, among others, from contesting the 2027 elections.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a bill seeking to bar individuals above the age of 60 from contesting for Nigeria’s presidential and gubernatorial elections has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.

The proposed legislation, sponsored by Rep. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, aims to amend sections of the 1999 Constitution to introduce an age limit for candidates seeking the nation’s top political offices.

According to the bill, anyone contesting for the position of President or Governor must not be older than 60 at the time of the election.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree as a minimum educational requirement.

Sections 131 and 177 of the constitution would be amended to reflect these new criteria if the bill becomes law.
