Governor Fubara’s failure to resume has fuelled tension in Rivers State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the supporters of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who had converged on the Government House in Port Harcourt to welcome him back after six months of suspension, began leaving on Thursday as his whereabouts remained unclear.

Thousands of loyalists, including former local government chairmen and key political allies, had assembled as early as 6:00 a.m. to receive Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive lifting the state of emergency imposed on Rivers.

The supporters, however, expressed disappointment when neither the governor nor his deputy appeared at the Government House.

Governor Fubara and his deputy had been out of office since March after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing a deepening political crisis.

The emergency rule was formally lifted on Wednesday, with the President instructing Fubara, Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to immediately resume duties.

Meanwhile, the Assembly wasted no time, holding its first plenary session barely 24 hours after the suspension of emergency rule.
