Fulani Herdsmen have wrecked fresh havoc in Benue State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that tragedy struck on Wednesday morning as suspected Fulani herdsmen launched fresh attacks on Egwuma and Ogbai communities in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, killing at least four people, including a mother and her son.

Eyewitnesses said the victims were attacked while working on their farms. Several others sustained injuries, while at least two persons remain missing.

A local resident of Egwuma, identified as Inalegwu, narrated:

“The herdsmen attacked Egwuma and Ogbai communities today. They killed a woman and her son on their farm, and two more people were killed at Ogbai. As I speak, two people are still missing, and we are searching for them.”

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Agatu LGA, Melvin James, condemned the attack, describing it as “unprovoked, senseless, and barbaric.”

He said:

“The attackers stormed Egwuma and killed a mother and her son on their farm, before proceeding to Ogbai where they killed two more people. The security operatives in Agatu have been trying, but the challenge we face is bad roads. At the time of the incident, security men were on surveillance in other areas.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she was yet to receive a formal report of the attack.

“I am currently on tour and have not received the report yet. I will provide details later,” she stated.

The latest assault has once again heightened fears among residents of Agatu, a community that has repeatedly suffered violent attacks linked to herders-farmers clashes.
