Former President Buhari Ministers, Malami and Amaechi have dumped APC and joined ADC.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that two powerful former ministers under ex president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Abubakar Malami and Rotimi Amaechi, have dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They expressed disappointment with the current state of the country and the direction of President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Abubakar Malami, who served as Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, announced his exit from the APC on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

He confirmed that he had joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after what he described as deep reflection and consultations.

Malami pointed to growing insecurity, worsening poverty, and what he called the failure of the government to protect citizens as reasons for his defection.

According to Malami, basic food items have become unaffordable for many Nigerians, while young people are struggling to survive.

He criticised the way appointments and policies are currently handled, claiming they are no longer based on merit but on political loyalty.

Also Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, also resigned from the APC.

He disclosed his decision during the unveiling of the interim leadership of the ADC in Abuja.

Amaechi accused both the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of working together to manipulate upcoming elections.

He said the current economic hardship and inflation had pushed ordinary Nigerians to the brink.

Amaechi revealed that he had already distanced himself from APC activities and formally resigned on Tuesday night.
