Former Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff has alleged that Peter Obi is set to return to PDP for 2027 Presidential Race.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has revealed that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, may soon return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sheriff claimed that reliable information at his disposal indicates that Obi is likely to rejoin the PDP and contest its presidential ticket.

Obi, who recently joined a coalition of opposition leaders under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, has not publicly declared any plans to defect. However, Sheriff suggested that the former Anambra governor is strategically positioning himself for a comeback to the PDP, which he previously left in 2022.

“Atiku has been the Vice President of Nigeria, so for him, it’s President or nothing. Peter Obi ran under the Labour Party, and his ambition remains the presidency,” Sheriff stated. “Information available to me is that any moment from now, Obi would go back to the PDP and run as a presidential candidate under the PDP.”

Sheriff also downplayed the political strength of other contenders, questioning which states are firmly under the control of PDP heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar and former minister Rotimi Amaechi, suggesting Obi may have a stronger grassroots appeal.
