FG has given 3 States and FCT a week’s deadline to submit a report on state police.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the National Economic Council (NEC) has again given a one-week deadline to three states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to submit a report on the establishment of State police in the country.

Recall that NEC had resolved to adopt a comprehensive report from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, that would culminate in the creation of State Police.

The NEC warned any decision taken on the issue would be binding on states that fail to submit their report before one week the deadline.

President Bola Tinubu had on February 15, 2024, agreed on the need to establish State Police as recommended by state governors.

The move is aimed at curbing the rising insecurity in the country.

To this end, states were tasked to submit their reports to the Council for deliberation and further action.
