EFCC has confirmed VDM arrest and given condition to release him amid #FreeVDM protests.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of popular activist Martins Vincent Otse, known widely as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

 

This Nigeria news platform understands that anti-graft agency which has come under fire over the illegal arrest said the internet sensation was arrested following multiple petitions filed against him.

 

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale explained on Monday that the activist was arrested to respond to various allegations raised by complainants.

He added that VDM would be released once he meets the set bail conditions and that the commission plans to charge the matter to court soon.

 

“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised by some petitioners,” Oyewale told BBC.

 

He added, “We will release him once he meets the bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible. We are law-abiding.”

 

He clarified that the petitions came from various people and were not limited to any one case, including matters related to GT Bank.
