Datti Baba-Ahmed has dumped Labour Party and is set to join Peoples Redemption Party.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has announced plans to leave the party and join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Baba-Ahmed made the disclosure on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, citing internal disagreements and a shift from the party’s founding ideals as reasons for his decision.

According to him, his exit will take effect at midnight, after which he will formally align with the PRP.
“I am leaving the Labour Party tomorrow. There is more to it… What the Labour Party stood for then is no longer what it is today,” he said, expressing dissatisfaction with recent developments within the party.
The former vice-presidential candidate also hinted at internal tensions, alleging that certain decisions within the party were targeted at making things difficult for him.
Confirming his next move, Baba-Ahmed stated that the PRP would be his new political platform, describing it as a party with a long-standing history and ideological foundation.
“PRP is the new destination. It’s about 75 years old,” he added.
His departure marks a significant development within Nigeria’s opposition politics, coming at a time of ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
