APC has drawn battle line with Rivers Assembly members loyal to Wike over impeachment move against Fubara and his deputy.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has strongly rejected the decision by the State House of Assembly loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesome Wike to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

The party’s reaction follows Thursday’s action by the Rivers Assembly, which commenced an impeachment process against the governor over alleged misconduct. The impeachment notice is expected to be formally served on the governor and his deputy within the next seven days.

Reacting to the development, the Rivers APC, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, described the move as unacceptable and politically motivated.

“Our position as of today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” Nwauju stated.

He argued that the impeachment attempt was a fallout of unresolved internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning against allowing such disputes to spill over into the APC-led government in the state.

“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party,” he added.

Nwauju further assured that the ruling party would resist any attempt to destabilise the state government.

“The APC will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilised,” the statement concluded.
