ADC Coalition is currently facing imminent collapse amid Peter Obi’s rumored return to PDP.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that amid growing speculation that Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi may rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections, his former Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Katchy Ononuju, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will collapse if Obi chooses to contest under a different platform.

Ononuju’s statement follows recent claims by former Borno State Governor and ex-PDP National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, who revealed during a Channels Television Politics Today appearance that Obi is preparing to dump the Labour Party and return to the PDP.

In an interview with Daily Post on Tuesday, Ononuju described Obi as a “political force” with the capacity to transform and energize any party he associates with.

“The moment we decide on a platform, that Ruga called ADC will collapse,” Ononuju said.
“Yes, Peter has held talks with them, and yes, anything is possible. A week or month is a long time in politics.”

He explained that Obi’s decision to contest on the LP platform in 2023 was prompted by the PDP’s refusal to zone the presidency to the South, a move that was seen as a betrayal by many of Obi’s supporters.

“I told Peter I wouldn’t support any platform that refuses to zone. That’s why we didn’t go with ADC initially—they weren’t clear on zoning either. Atiku’s posture and PDP’s indecision pushed us away.”

Ononuju also claimed that the ADC, allegedly created as a backup vehicle for disgruntled PDP governors, has lost political relevance.

“If ADC zones to the South, fine. But it’s still an empty shell. There’s no real structure there. We could simply ask them to rejoin PDP and move on.”

He further hinted at a possible reconciliation within the PDP, saying the party could be rebuilt despite the damage caused by internal divisions and the influence of figures like Nyesom Wike.

“If we return to PDP, we can make peace and repair what’s been broken. Political parties are made of people, and with time, we can fix things and move forward.”

Ononuju’s remarks underscore the growing political realignments already taking shape as 2027 approaches with Peter Obi’s next move being watched closely by allies, opponents, and political observers alike
