Miscalculation Will Backfire - Ohanaeze

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said the decision of APC to choose Ahmad Lawal as consensus candidate is a miscalculation that will backfire.

Newsonline reports that the Igbo socio-cultural organization said, it was a show of insensitivity to the reality on ground for the ruling All Progressive Congress to pick a Northerner as their consensus candidate.

Newsonline had reported that, National Chairman, APC, Abdullahi Adamu, had announced that senate president, Ahmad Lawal, has been chosen as the presidential candidate of the ruling party. Read more.

In a statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Secretary-General, said, “the announcement of the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, that Senator Ahmad Lawal is the APC consensus candidate for 2023 depicts immaturity and is a game over for the ruling party to retain power at the centre, as this miscalculation will backfire on the ruling party’s chances to win 2023 election and we call on President Buhari to caution the party National Chairman Sen. Adamu, who appears to be biased and compromised by hawks in the party.”

Mazi Isiguzoro expressed confidence in the courage of APC, governors decision against the decision of the chairman and President Buhari.

He said, “we salute the courageous stance of APC Northern Governors to reject the APC National Chairman’s choice for consensus those pushing for the choice Ahmad Lawal are oblivion to the fact that a political tsunami is sweeping across the country with the resurrection of the third force in Labour Party, Atiku and Lawal will lose the Presidential election against a united front of Nigerians and Southerners behind the third force.”

Isiguzoro stated that it was a wrong decision for the APC to choose a candidate who lacks personality quality form the North, not minding the general call for Igbo presidency will not help the APC in any ways.

“Senator Ahmad Lawal lacks the personality, and character, and appears clueless to fit into the legacies of President Buhari which only an Igbo can do, as a rubber stamp Senate President, his candidacy will crash out the ruling party from Aso Rock.”

Ohanaeze Secretary-General said Ndigbo rejects in entirety and will definitely ensure that the decision of APC backfires.

“Ndigbo rejects the candidature of Ahmad Lawan, a man who couldn’t find solutions through the legislative process to the insecurity challenges of the Northeast, this man will lead Nigeria into disintegration and collapse of Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity”, to be forewarned is be forearmed.”
