APC has mocked Goodluck Jonathan amid rumoured 2027 presidential comeback.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked former President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over claims that Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election.

Reacting to the statement by Professor Jerry Gana at the PDP Congress in Minna, Niger State, that Jonathan would reclaim power, the Lagos APC dismissed the idea as desperate political nostalgia rather than a credible plan.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the party said Jonathan would need “an overdose of good luck” to stand a realistic chance of winning.

“Elections are contests of ideas, competence and delivery – not nostalgia or recycled rhetoric,” Oladejo said, adding that Gana’s declaration was both presumptuous and undemocratic, as it sidelined due process within the PDP.

The APC further questioned Gana’s political relevance, accusing him of trying to heat up the polity with premature campaign rhetoric before the official electioneering season begins.

The party urged Jonathan to enjoy his retirement and safeguard his legacy as a leader who peacefully conceded defeat in 2015, instead of risking political embarrassment with a comeback bid.

“If he chooses to run, President Jonathan will need more than an overdose of good luck. He will face numerous landmines – legal hurdles, questions over his record, and fundamental issues of capacity,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Lagos APC highlighted ongoing economic reforms, infrastructure projects, and social interventions as proof of a government focused on the future.

“We will continue to defend policies that prioritise the future over the past,” Oladejo said, while challenging the PDP to present concrete policy proposals instead of relying on emotional appeals and divisive nostalgia.

Meanwhile, Prof. Gana had argued over the weekend that Nigerians were clamouring for Jonathan’s return, claiming that the difference in governance since 2015 had made his past leadership more appealing.
